Firstly, the natural ventilator is mainly used for ventilation and have the function of daylighting; while electric smoke vent is mainly for lighting and supplemented by ventilation. Therefore, natural vent is suitable for buildings with high ventilation requirements, while electric smoke ventilator is suitable for buildings with high lighting requirements and ventilation when necessary.

Secondly, the electric smoke vent is equipped with an electric valve plate. If ventilation is not required, the valve plate can be closed, but the building can still be lighted. Smoke vent skylights equipped with valve panels are open-close type, while ventilation skylights without valve panels are opening type.

The electric smoke ventilation have round arches, triangles, in-line shapes, etc.; because they are mainly for lighting, each surface is made of lighting materials, and each surface is transparent to achieve a better lighting effect of the building. The shape of the ventilation skylight is rectangular, streamlined (circular arc) and other shapes; because it is mainly for ventilation, the outer guard plate is generally made of color steel plate, and the top of the smoke ventilator is installed with a daylighting panel for lighting,

so it can be used for lighting. The area is not as large as that of an electric lighting and smoke exhaust skylight.
